The remains of the city of Troy, which gave its name to the Trojan War written about by Homer in The Iliad and The Odyssey, are located in Hisarlik near Turkey’s Canakkale province. A Turkish town called Truva has developed in the vicinity of the archaeological site to service the tourist trade. The archaeological site is officially called Troia by the Turkish government.
Istanbul, Turkey’s most populous city, is home to some of the world’s most important buildings and monuments, including Hagia Sophia, the Column of Constantine, and Topkapi Palace.
