In 2005, the government of Sweden announced the intention of becoming the world’s first oil-independent economy by 2020. As of 2005, renewables (primarily hydropower and biomass) accounted for more than 25% of Sweden’s energy supply.

During the latter half of 1946, Sweden was the primary location for sightings of missile-shaped objects known as ghost rockets. The objects are today regarded as the first widespread appearance of UFOs. Over 2,000 reported sightings were logged.
